FSA Annual Report for 2008/09

Ou Annual Report 2008/09, setting out our work over the past year, is now available.

The last year has been extremely difficult for financial markets and we have been stretched in carrying out our work. Despite these challenges, we believe the FSA has responded and adapted well to events.
This year’s Report starts with a section on “Financial stability and supervision of firms – responding to the crisis.”  This reflects the vital importance of these issues over the last year.
The Report then describes the rest of our work during the year in relation to our statutory objectives under the following headings:

  • Promoting efficient, orderly and fair markets
  • Helping retail consumers achieve a fair deal (where most of the work involving small firms is set out)
  • Improving our business capability and effectiveness

The Report highlights:

  • how we have changed our supervisory approach to address the financial crisis;
  • our agenda to learn lessons from the financial crisis and to develop a better and more effective framework for domestic and international regulation for the future;
  • our enforcement work to in support of our policy of credible deterrence; and
  • our work to help ensure that consumers are treated fairly by firms and to improve public understanding of the financial system.

Our Annual Public Meeting

There is an opportunity to discuss our Annual Report at our Annual Public Meeting on 23 July.  If you would like to attend, please let us know by close of business on Thursday 16 July, by returning the registration form.
Spaces are limited and filling up fast, so to allow as many different firms as possible to attend we are asking those that wish to attend to only book one place per firm.
