This part of the FSA Register allows users to search for payment institutions that are or have been authorised or registered to carry out payment services under the Payment Services Regulations 2009, which came into force on 1 November 2009.
The types of firms you will find under this search include:
- money remitters;
- credit card issuers; and
- merchant acquirers.
There are also other organisations that can provide payment services that do not appear on this search tab.
These types of firms are:
- banks, building societies, credit unions and authorised e-money issuers - Information on these is on the Financial Services Firm Search tab;
- information about credit unions registered in Northern Ireland can be found through the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment's online register
- small e-money issuers;
- payment institutions authorised in another EEA state - information on these is on their home state's register
- firms using transitional provisions; and
- other organisations including municipal banks, the Post Office and The National Savings Bank
Some firms appear under both the Financial Services Firm Search and under the Payment Service Firm Search. Once you have searched for your firm, you may want to check the 'Other Information' field on the 'Basic details' page to see if the firm has another record under the 'Financial Services Firm Search' tab.
Customers of payment institutions will not have access to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, but eligible customers can refer complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service as well as the FSA.
There are 2 ways to search for Firm(s):
