Building Societies Statistics 2005
We retain the statutory function under the Building Societies Act of advising the Treasury and other Government departments on any matters relating to building societies. During the course of the year we have given the Treasury advice and assistance on a number of matters.
These include:
- consideration of recommendations 19 and 20 ( relating to building societies ) of the Miles review of the UK mortgage market, and making a statutory instrument ( SI 2004 No. 3200 ) to facilitate building societies' continued use of securitisation;
- the existing corporate governance regime for building societies , in the context of the Myners review of the governance of life mutuals.
Building society statistics for 2004 are now available and a set of 14 tables follows, similar in scope, coverage and level of detail to the tables we published in June 2004.
Notes to the tables explain the basis of the statistics and conventions used in compiling them.
