Mutual Societies

 

Building Societies are registered under the Building Societies Act 1986. They have as their main purpose the making of loans that are secured on residential property and are funded substantially by their members.

As well as their principal purpose, they are allowed to carry out a wide range of other activities such as other forms of lending and investment, money transmission services, banking and insurance services.
