The Money Laundering Regulations 2007 came into effect on 15 December 2007. These Regulations transpose the EU's Third Money Laundering Directive in the UK.

The FSA supervises the compliance of most financial services firms with the Money Laundering Regulations:

  • The FSA supervises the compliance of FSMA authorised Firms with the Regulations. Mortgage brokers, general insurers and general insurance brokers are not subject to the Regulations.
  • The FSA also supervises the compliance of certain other financial services firms (like safety deposit box providers, leasing companies, share registrars, commercial lenders and e-money institutions). Further information, including a glossary, can be found by clicking on the links below.
