Do you work with families?

Whether you are a healthcare professional working directly with a parent before or after the birth, or a family support worker, you have a crucial and invaluable role to play for all parents-to-be and new parents.

If you’re an HR professional supporting employees in their workplace, we need you to let your staff know that we have invaluable resources available to them in the form of both this and our Moneymadeclear website, as well as making sure that soon-to-be mums (and dads!) ask their midwife for their guide.

To find out more about what's in the guide and how you can help get it to expectant or new parents, see our Key messages.

And for information about what else we’re up to, see Other FSA resources.

We also have the results of the latest research we carried out to assess how well the guide works, and to see how the impact of the guide differs across different sections of the new parent population, particularly the vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups.

On the main section of our website you can also find the entire guide split into the eight tabs of Countdown, Budgeting, Entitlements, Work options, Childcare, Savings, Borrowing money and Money worries, as well as our easy-to-use calculators.

We also have an A-Z list of useful organisations, with links to external websites with further information and useful resources.

We are in the process of writing some pages for more specialised audiences, where parts of the guide may be less relevant. Our first page is about information on which UK benefits you may be entitled to if you’re expecting a baby and from outside the UK, called Can you get UK state benefits?. Future plans include information for those thinking of adopting or fostering, for those who have suffered a still birth, and for those in the British Forces.

Family support staff can use the guide in many ways, such as support for individual families when money issues arise, or in financial literacy sessions.

We are more than happy to brief staff about the guide and provide posters to help publicise it.
