In this section you will find material relating to research that has been carried out, commissioned by or supported by the FSA.
- Consumer research
The FSA carries out consumer research to help inform our understanding of consumer behaviour in retail markets as part of our commitment to evidence based policy. We also undertake some research with firms to understand their engagement and interaction so that we can improve our service delivery.
We do not have a formal annual research programme though most of our research priorities are informed by our annual business plan. We have a framework agreement through which we commission most of our research.
- Economic research
Economic analysis and research are a fundamental element of our commitment to evidence based policy. We use Market Failure Analysis and Cost Benefit Analysis to help evaluate where we intervene and the means through which we intervene. We also conduct and/or commission economic research to help inform the current and future agenda for financial regulation.
We are committed to encouraging debate among academics, practitioners and policy-makers in all aspects of financial regulation. Most microeconomics research at the FSA is conducted by the team of economists in the Economics of Financial Regulation Department (EFRD), which is part of the Strategy and Risk Division.
