FSA Annual Meeting
18/07/2002
Howard Davies made the attached remarks at the FSAs Annual Meeting today.
Notes for editors
Mr Davies was addressing the FSAs third Annual Meeting held at Canary Wharf in London 2002. Representatives of the financial services firms and consumer organisations plus members of the public attended. The meeting was the first to be held under the requirement of the Financial Services and Markets Act for the FSA to hold a full public meeting to consider its Annual Report. The FSAs Annual Report 2001/2002 was published last month.
The FSA regulates the financial services industry and has four objectives under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000; maintaining market confidence; promoting public understanding of the financial system; securing the appropriate degree of protection of consumers; and fighting financial crime.
The FSA aims to maintain efficient, orderly and clean financial markets and help retail consumers achieve a fair deal.
