FSA appoints new Head of Press Office and Events

John Fryer, a senior economics and business editor with the BBC, has been appointed Head of Press Office and Events at the Financial Services Authority. He will take up his appointment, reporting to FSA Chairman Howard Davies, in mid-July.

John Fryer, 57, started work as a journalist on local newspapers in 1963. He joined the Sunday Times in 1969 and was its Labour correspondent from 1971 to 1982. From 1982 to 1997 he was Labour, then Industrial and Business, Correspondent for BBC News. He was Assignments Editor in the BBC News Economics Affairs Unit from 1997 to 1999 before taking up his current position as Business Editor for the Today Programme on Radio 4 and for Wake up to Money and the Financial World Tonight on Radio 5.
John is married to a BBC television producer and has four daughters.
The FSA regulates the financial services industry and has four objectives under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000: maintaining market confidence; promoting public understanding of the financial system; securing the appropriate degree of protection of consumers; and fighting financial crime.
The FSA aims to maintain efficient, orderly and clean financial markets and help retail consumers achieve a fair deal.
