The Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Statutory Instruments require us to publish and maintain a ‘publication scheme’ setting out:

  • the types of information we will publish;
  • the way in which the information will be published; and
  • whether or not we will charge for providing the information.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) oversees and enforces the Freedom of Information Act. Under the publication scheme, authorities must produce a guide to the specific information they hold and which is contained within any of the following seven classes within the scheme:

classes within the scheme:

The FSA will review and update our information guide and its contents on a regular basis.
The ICO recognises that information falling within the following categories does not need to be made available under the information guide:

  • where FSA does not hold the information;
  • the information is exempt under one of the Freedom of Information exemptions or Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) exceptions, or its release is prohibited under another statute;
  • the information is archived, out of date or otherwise inaccessible; or,
  • it would be impractical or resource-intensive to prepare the material for routine release.

Administrative arrangements

Charging for publication

There is no charge for information that can be downloaded directly from our website. Various charging structures apply to hard copy versions of certain information classes.

A pound sign (£) is used to indicate that the class may contain material for which there is a charge.

Consumer publications

FSA consumer publications are available free to individual consumers and in limited quantities to libraries, consumer advice agencies and charitable organisations. Firms may also order copies, subject to charges above a certain number of copies.

Consumer publications may be ordered direct using the Consumer Publications online order form.
Full details are given on the following link:

You may use the FSA Register on-line search facility. Alternatively, this information is also available on CD ROM for which there is a charge.
  • Other publications
    We will supply a single paper copy of information (where shown as available under these classes) free of charge on request. We reserve the right to charge for multiple paper copies of documents and postage and packing.
