COBS Appropriateness Test
This short course covers the Appropriateness test and is part of the COBS training package. It has been designed to help you undertsand the requirements in COBS 10 - Appropriateness (for non-advised services).
It is complemented by some case studies and questions and answers on Appropriateness available on our COBS web page.
Objectives
When you have finished this course, you will be able to:
- identify what the appropriateness test is;
- specify when it must be carried out; and
- describe what an assessment of appropriateness entails.
Who is it for?
This course has been designed for firms falling within the scope of MiFID. It will be of particular relevance to MiFID investment firms carrying on MiFID investment services (or equivalent third country business), which do not involve investment advice or discretionary portfolio management. (‘non-advised services’). It will also be relevant to non-MiFID firms undertaking direct offer business in derivatives (including spread bets).
How is the information presented?
You take the course online. Its features include:
- questions to help you understand the topics covered;
- interactive features and links so you can get extra information;
- references to the relevant parts of the Handbook; and
- audit commentary.
Duration
The course takes approximately 25 minutes. You can stop and start the course and return to it later.

Updated Modules
Purchasers of modules are assigned a personal home page where this module is hosted. If a published module is updated Industry Training will endeavour to substitute the purchased module with the amended one, for example, in circumstances where the module was only recently purchased. In circumstances where Industry Training has removed an older module from further use, because it is out-of-date or has been superseded by a new module, past purchasers will no longer have access rights to the module from their home page.
