Paying fees

Are you unsure about the annual fees due to the FSA?
Are the fees that you are paying appropriate to the regulated activities that your firm undertakes?

Please see the information below providing details of how fees are calculated and how this links to the activities of your firm.

The regulated activities for which a firm has permission are linked to activity groups ('fee-blocks'). The fee blocks into which firms fall into are based on its Scope of Permission Notice (SoPN) and annual fee tariff data, (a measure of the amount of business your firm undertakes).

Fee-blocks are used to categorise fee-payers offering broadly similar services and products; they ensure that similar businesses are charged fees on a similar basis. In addition, they minimise the possibility that one regulated sector subsidises another.

Firms in different fee-blocks present different risks to our statutory objectives. So, the fees charged to firms in different fee-blocks depend on the resources devoted to regulating the firms in that fee-block. These are determined by the risk associated with each block.

The fee block a firm falls into is based on its SoPN and fee-tariff data. Your firm may wish to review your current SoPN against the business you actually conducts to ensure your fees are proportionate to the regulated activities it undertakes.

If you want to vary your firm's Part IV permission, you can do this electronically through our Firms Online system
