This section contains tools designed to help firms in preparing suitability reports for customers. They are not prescriptive and how you choose to use them may depend on your firm's size and business model.

The aim is to prompt firms to give more thought to what should (and should not) be contained in these documents and to improve their quality.

Communicating with customers

We have not provided letter templates for you (and do not plan to) because each customer's circumstances are unique. You are in the best position to reflect this in a well constructed and personalised letter, which clearly explains why and how your recommendations meet the customer's needs.

However you may find our one page good and poor practice example sheet helpful in deciding if your suitability reports tell the right story.

Remember

The ideas for these tools have been provided by firms, similar to your own, who are already successfully using them in their daily work.
