Important notes for new users

Computer specification

As a minimum, you'll need:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or above (you can download this free of charge from www.adobe.co.uk)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or above; and
  • a screen resolution of 1024 x 768

Getting started

When you first log on, please read the guidance available within the system. This can be accessed via the Help link at the top of each page. This provides useful information on how to use ONA and how to add and manage additional users.

You should also familiarise yourself with the sources of help available to you as explained on the Help page.

Firm responsibilities for managing their users

Firms are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Access to ONA is only given to those that have the firm’s authority to access and amend applications.
  • Appropriate access rights are given your users to control the activities they can carry out on ONA.
  • Staff with permission to use ONA do so responsibly on their firm’s behalf.
  • User accounts are set to Inactive when your users no longer need access to ONA.

For help on how to manage your users’ accounts please see the Quick Reference Guides in the top right corner of this page.

Registering for ONA

You should register for ONA using one of these two methods:

Firms with individuals holding Controlled Functions

To register you must be an approved person holding certain ‘significant influence functions’ (i.e. those with Controlled Function 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 28, 29). Your firm’s Controlled Function notice shows which Controlled Functions are held by individuals in your firm. They are also held on the FSA Register.

An approved person holding a significant influence function should register the firm using the link below. As part of the registration process, we will authenticate the approved person's information against our records.

We will then ask you to nominate a person who will become the Principal User of ONA for the specified firm; this could be the same as the approved person.

We will send an email to the nominated Principal User asking them to activate their ONA account, using the information provided in the email.

The nominated Principal User will then be responsible for creating and maintaining any other users that your firm(s) need.

These firms will need to contact the Customer Contact Centre on 0845 606 9966.

The Customer Contact Centre will arrange for ONA to send an email to the nominated Principal User asking them to activate their ONA account, using the information provided in the email.

The nominated Principal User will then be responsible for creating and maintaining any other users that your firm(s) need.
