Overview of submission methods
Under Mandatory Electronic Reporting, the GABRIEL system will provide four ways to submit regulatory data. Firms will be able to select the method that is most suitable to their business.
The four options are as follows:
- Online Forms
- Offline Forms
- Web Upload
- Direct Communication
Online Forms
Firms wishing to submit their regulatory data online will be able to key data into the appropriate web forms.
The system will validate that the forms are correctly completed and work in-progress can be saved for completion at a later date. When completed, the firm will submit the data to the FSA.
Offline Forms
Firms wishing to complete their regulatory data offline will be able to do so by downloading a version of the online form for completion.
The data in the Offline Form will then be uploaded into the online version of the form where the relevant sections will be populated ready for review, validation and submission to the FSA.
Web Upload
A firm using Web Upload will produce an XML file of regulatory data that is compliant with definitions published in our Data Reference Guide. This file will then be uploaded into the system where the relevant sections of the online version of the form will be populated ready for review, validation and submission to the FSA.
A firm using Web Upload will have previously developed routines and software to automatically extract the necessary data from its own systems into the required format.
Direct Communication
Firms using this method will also produce an XML file that is compliant with definitions published in our Data Reference Guide. The file is transferred to us using a secure file transfer mechanism.
Our system will then validate the submitted file and return a message advising the firm whether the submission process was successful. If unsuccessful, the message will specify validation error details. Where there are errors, firms will have the choice of either resubmitting their return or amending the errors using the online system. The method used will depend on the firm's circumstances and the nature and volume of the errors within the report.
A firm using Direct Communication will have previously developed routines and software to automatically extract the necessary data from its own systems. The data can be scheduled to be sent automatically to our system without the need for manual input or human intervention.
