A firm which has a Part IV permission/authorisation to carry on regulated activities and wants to have that permission/authorisation cancelled/ended must apply to us.

If you wish to add/remove certain permissions and remain on the FSA Register then you require a Variation of Permission, (VOP) not a Cancellation.
Applying for a variation of permission

If you are applying to change the legal status of your firm then you may need to use the Change of legal status application pack. This pack requires that the existing authorised firm applies to cancel its permission at the same time as the applicant applies for authorisation.

Is my firm ready to apply for cancellation?

Before applying to cancel, your firm must either:

  1. have ceased carrying on regulated activities; or
  2. plan to cease carrying on regulated activities within six months of the application.

Please note that if you do not plan to cease to carry on regulated activities within six months of applying, we will not accept your application.

Your firm should have also:

  1. told its clients and its approved persons of its intention to cancel its permission;
  2. paid all its outstanding fees;
  3. filed any regulatory returns that are due;
  4. resolved any complaints against it; and
  5. have suitable arrangements to deal with any subsequent complaints and liabilities that might arise.

It is essential that you meet these conditions; otherwise, we may not grant your application to cancel.
