Sarah Wilson - Director

Sarah was appointed a director of the FSA in April 2002.

Reporting to David Kenmir, she is a director of Retail Firms Division, and has lead responsibility for the Treating Customers Fairly initiative. Previously she was director responsible for introduction of regulation of the mortgage and general insurance sectors, including the policy for regulating and authorising firms from both sectors.

Before becoming a director, Sarah was head of mortgages and financial promotion in our conduct of business standards division and before that head of policy in the pension review division. Previously, she was private secretary to Howard Davies as deputy governor of the Bank of England and then as chairman of the FSA.

An economist educated at Cambridge and the London School of Economics, Sarah began her career at the Bank of England in 1987, first as an economist and then in banking supervision.

Lucy McClements – Sector Team Manager & Life issues

Reporting to Sarah Wilson, Lucy joined the Insurance Sector Team in February 2007 following two years supervising investment firms in the FSA's Wholesale Firms Division.

Her previous roles in the FSA have involved supervising Lloyd's of London, and developing our risk-based framework - ARROW.

Before joining the FSA, Lucy began her career at the Bank of England as a banking supervisor. An economist educated at Warwick, she is also a qualified accountant

Alysha Paterson - Life Insurance and General Insurance

Alysha is currently on her third rotation on the FSA graduate scheme. Previously, she worked in Consumer Communications on the delivery of the website Moneymadeclear, and then in Small Firms Division on the affordability in mortgages project.

Before joining the FSA, Alysha studied music at Cambridge and began her career at Deloitte, where she qualified as a chartered tax adviser. Alysha's key responsibility in the team is to provide focused, effective and accurate risk information for supervisors undertaking assessments of insurance firms as part of the ARROW II process.

Alysha is currently on secondment to HSBC.

Jenny Clark - Communications

Jenny joined the team in September 2007 from our Public Affairs, Accountability and Events department where she was responsible for the 2007/08 Business Plan, the 2006/07 Annual Report and our 2007 Annual Public Meeting.

Jenny leads on the team's internal and external communications. She joined the FSA in 2002 and worked in intelligence and enforcement before being seconded to the Treasury to work on the Myners review of the governance of life mutuals. On her return she joined our Retail Firms Division and spent two years supervising life insurers.

Before joining the FSA, Jenny studied Economics and Philosophy at the University of Nottingham. She also has a diploma from the University of Manchester in anti-money laundering.

Paul O'Brien - General Insurance issues & training

Paul is a trainer by background, with certificates in Learning & Development and Insurance. Paul is currently studying for his degree in insurance.

Before joining the FSA, he worked for several financial institutions including Citigroup, Jardine Lloyd Thompson and National Australia Bank, primarily in the area of training and competence including regulatory and compliance knowledge and skills. Paul has also worked for the Assets Recovery Agency and was involved in implementing the Proceeds of Crime Act, specifically the training of law enforcement agencies in Financial Investigation, Confiscation and anti-money laundering.

Paul joined the team in May 2008, focusing on training issues across the insurance sector and risk analysis work specifically within the general insurance area.

Daniel Cameron - Risk

Daniel joined the team in April 2008, following two years working at the London Development Agency as a Business Policy Manager and four at the Ministry of Economic Development of New Zealand as a Policy Analyst. Before that, he studied Management and Philosophy at Victoria University of Wellington.

Daniel’s key responsibility in the team is to provide focused, effective and accurate risk information for supervisors undertaking assessments of insurance firms as part of the ARROW II process.

Chris Smith - With-profits

Chris is currently on secondment to the team and is responsible for co-ordinating a number of pieces of work on life insurance, particularly with-profits.

Chris's background is as an economist and before joining the FSA he worked in the Department of Social Security (now the Department of Work and Pensions) and the Association of British Insurers.

At the FSA he has worked in insurance risk analysis, as a life insurance supervisor for 3 years and on other life insurance-related projects.
